GEOGRAPHY
Queenstown Lakes: Mountainous with deep glacial lakes, vineyards, native bush, wild rivers and rural roads/highways.
Dunedin: A coastal city with long-extinct volcanic terrain, yellow sand beaches, rolling farmlands and spectacular peninsula.
Southland: Long, rugged coastlines, awe-inspiring fiords (including the renowned Milford Sound), rolling green farmlands, native bush and an isolated island community.
Central Otago: Rocky-cragged moonscapes, dry brown landscapes, long river valleys, fertile horticultural and viticultural haven.
CLIMATE
New Zealand is in the Southern Hemisphere and as such has the opposite seasons to the Northern Hemisphere. It's summer here (December - March) while it's winter up north.
The seasons are very distinct in the southern part of New Zealand, with up to 16 hours' daylight in summer - warm dry days temperatures between 10degC (50degF) and 30degC (86degF) and cool, clear winters ranging from minus 6degC (21degF) to 15degC (60degF).
Expect anything from snow to sun to rain to wind.
